was originally settled in the 1600's by Quakers that came to
settle on the land originally purchased by William Penn. The
first turnpike in the U.S. was founded in Wayne, and keyed the
growth of the area in the late 1700's. Development of the
railroad also made Wayne a favorite retreat for wealthy
Philadelphians throughout the years.
Located in the Main Line area in Radnor Township and extending into both Tredyffrin Township and Upper Merion, the community of Wayne is one of the most desirable suburbs in the Philadelphia area. Over the years, Wayne has been home to many of the most spectacular mansions and estate of the Main Line area.
Wayne also features one of the finest educational systems in the country, including the private schools of the Devereaux School and the Valley Forge Military Academy. Incidentally, the movie "Taps" with George C. Scott, Sean Penn, and Tom Cruise was filmed at the Academy.
Wayne, PA is conveniently located near some of the finest shops, restaurants, parks, entertainment, and recreational facilities in the Main Line area.
